As part of cost saving initiative led by an independent project coordinator, Lowerplace Primary School in Rochdale would replace all the old fluorescent and incandescent lighting for modern LED equivalents as part of a SALIX scheme. The switching arrangements within the school were to be modified to include automatic detection throughout to maximise the efficiency of the Installation project. The school is circa 1960’s and had not been brought up to the most recent standards.

Part of the project consisted of cost savings to water heating within the school to which we provided timeclock functionality to allow the heaters to be controlled and optimised for the Schools occupancy.

WG conducted a cost saving exercise by commissioning our own lighting design and offering alternative luminaires of equal standard to the ones specified yet at a considerable saving. The project was to be carried out within the summer break running in conjunction with a School wide fire alarm upgrade which was also within our remit.

Effective time management was essential whilst on site to maintaining steady work flow to ensure completion before the children were to return to school, and in doing so we completed the project ahead of schedule.

Whilst undertaking the works it became apparent that the initial design with regards to the controls would need improvising as devices and in some instances entire areas had been missed from the design and in some instances, incompatible devices had been specified. We then had to take the lead in designing a solution which would enable the school to have the complete automation initially specified within the contract. Delays would have been expected as a consequence if not for our diligence once on site to assess the complete installation.
